Jane Addams Hull-House Museum

Saturday, December 8 - JANE ADDAMS DAY CELEBRATION at the CHICAGO HISTORY MUSEUM
10am-NOON, 1601 N. Clark Street.
Author Charles J. Masters will describe the city Jane Addams encountered upon moving here in 1889 and the reform activities she initiated to help make Chicago what it is today.
A reader's theater production of The Halsted Street Play will follow the lecture. Written by a resident of Hull-House, the play was first performed by immigrants associated with Hull-House and its neighborhood.

Sunday, December 9 - FAMILY FUN DAY at the JANE ADDAMS HULL-HOUSE MUSEUM
Come to the Jane Addams Hull-House Museum on December 9th for a Rollicking Fun Family Day! 
NOON-4pm, 800 South Halsted Street

Celebrate the holiday season and the newly legislated Illinois Jane Addams Day with us on the 76th anniversary of Jane Addams receiving the Nobel Peace Prize.  History, holiday treats, storytelling, spoken word and art will be served. Bowen Country Club alumni will gather at 3pm to reunite, share memories, and enjoy the Museum's new BCC photo album and "History on Call" audio segment.
-Costumed performers from the Chicago Children’s Theatre will be throughout the museum telling immigrant stories.  
-Families can participate in a scavenger hunt through the Hull-House Museum’s exhibits.
-Spoken Word poets will engage and perform in the Historic Residents' Dining Hall where writers like Upton Sinclair, Gertrude Stein, WIllard Motley and Carl Sandburg once gathered.
-Children will be encouraged to enter in the Jane Addams Day Coloring Contest  and create artwork with A.R.T.  (Art Resources and Teaching) artists will work with youth.  
-All Families who participate will be given a FREE FAMILY PASS to see the Chicago Children’s Theatre’s magical production of Esperanza Rising.  The play will be showing at the Goodman Theatre in Summer 2008.  For more information about this production go to http://www.chicagochildrenstheatre.org.


Monday, December 10 - JANE ADDAMS DAY LUNCHEON
Celebratory Program: A Special Luncheon hosted by the American Association of University Women
Noon, Jane Addams Hull-House Museum, Residents' Dining Hall, 800 S. Halsted Street.
Public remarks will be made by Addams biographers Louise Knight and Jean Bethke Elshtain on "Why Remember Jane Addams." 
Parking available in UIC pay garage across the street. Cost: $30 a person.
Note: Seating is limited, please RSVP as soon as possible.  The deadline to RSVP is Wednesday, November 21st.
